In order to strengthen the enforcement of Union law and policies in specific areas, the European Commission adopted Directive 2019/1937, which aims to establish common minimum standards ensuring that whistleblowers are protected effectively, upon reporting violations of Union law.

By Law N.6(I)/2022, those workers who want to reveal incidents of illegal activities and cases of abuse of law, and inform the competent authorities to deal with the problem, have full protection. The Law is a step in the broader framework of fighting corruption in the EU and the Republic of Cyprus, and whistleblowers are, in essence, the mechanism for identifying and preventing violations that harm the public interest.
